Beschreibung[en]

The invention concerns systems for making sheets for use simultaneously as sheets for written messages and for the envelope from continuous forms.

Reference is made to the usual forms for telegrams or for cabled money orders, namely those forms on which the Mail Service puts the cabled message and all the necessary details for cabled money orders.

A copy of this form is put in a sealed envelope which the postman delivers to the consignee who signs a receipt for it. Despatch of a telegram or cabled money order from the Mail Service to the consignee therefore requires some considerable time and expense for making up the envelope, for putting the form inside and sealing it down, for recording the receiver's signature and also for preparing the form to be filed away.

In the case of the cabled money order there are still further operations as the Mail Service must prepare and file a form with the most important details of the cabled money order.

Similarly known are sheets for ordinary correspondence obtained, as disclosed by patent GB 2 150 883 A, from a continuous form with continuous longitudinal lateral perforated bands, and bands having cold glueing means divided by continuous longitudinal lines punched for easy tear-off.

Said continuous form is divided into equal parts by transversal lines punched to facilitate tear-off.

Each of said parts composes a form usable as a sheet of letter paper whose front face comprises three transversal zones of equal height. The second,central,zone and the third zone on the front face both have a glued strip on their upper and lower margins respectively and pairs of glued strips on lateral bands.

The first zone and second central zone on the back face of said form have a glued strip on the upper and lower margins respectively and pairs of glued strips on lateral bands. By folding inwards the second and third zones on the front face, one against the other, they remain fixed in that position held by the pairs of glued strips.

By folding outwards the first and second zones on the back face, one against the other, they too remain fixed in that position, held by the pairs of glued strips.

Said forms can there fore be conveniently used for mailed correspondence by folding them up like a letter.

Said letters can then be opened on arrival by removing the lateral bands along the prepared tear-off lines.

Clearly said forms cannot be used instead of the present ones for telegrams and cabled money orders since an essential feature of this postal service is the issue of a receipt by the user, said receipt being linked by certain distinctive markings with the consigned telegram form.

The above invention discloses continuous forms specifically designed for telegrams and cabled money orders offering considerable advantages to the user and to the post office authorities as will be explained below.

The invention concerns forms for telegrams and forms for cabled money orders in which the postal forms,obtained from the continuous form already described, contain an intermediate longitudinal portion prepared for easy tear-off that divides the first zone on the front face of the postal form into two parts; the left of said portion is for the user's address. The right hand part of said portion contains the wording "Receipt" and "Signature of consignee" or equivalent symbols. Between the first and second zones of the postal form there is a transversal tear-off portion that extends from the right hand edge of the form as far as the above mentioned longitudinal intermediate portion.

The glued strips situated at the upper and lower margins respectively of the first and second zones on the back faces of the form, extend from the right hand edge of said form as far as the longitudinal intermediate tear-off portion.

Therefore, when closing the telegram, the area constituting the right hand part of the first zone on the form remains connected by the two portions only, one longitudinal and one transversal, punched for easy tear-off, lying at a right angle. When the user has placed his signature in said area to show receipt, the postman can tear said receipt off and hand it to the user.

Use of said forms as telegrams comprises these stages:

  • writing the user's address on the left hand side of the first zone on the front face of the form and writing the message in the second and third zones on said front face;
  • folding inwards the second and third zones on the front face of the form, one against the other, glueing them together by means of the glued strips on the upper margin of the second zone and on the lower margin of the third zone and on the lateral bands;
  • delivery of the form to the user and signature by said user in the right hand area, constituting a receipt, of the first zone on the form;
  • tearing off said area constituting a receipt signed by the user who accepts the form while the receipt is retained by the postman;
  • detachment by the user of the lateral bands on the form by tearing along the prepared lines so that the form can be opened and its message read.

In one variant specifically made for cabled money orders, said continuous form has three perforated continuous longitudinal bands, two of which are lateral and one is intermediate to divide said continuous form into two longitudinal strips.

In this way there is not only a first form marked off by two lateral perforated bands, but also a second form having one side in common with the first form along the continuous dividing line and having a longitudinal perforated band on the outer side.

The transversal zones of equal height on the continuous form are divided by lines prepunched for tear-off.

On the second zone of the front face, of the first form,there is a box and a number of lines for respectively indicating the amount of the money order in digits and in letters, and lines for indicating the sender and consignee respectively.

The second zone on the back face, of the first form,contains a space and a square for the word "Endorsement" or an equivalent symbol.

On the second form there are boxes and lines respectively for indicating the amount in digits and in letters, and lines on which to state the post office where payment will be made.

Use of said forms for cabled money orders is made in the following stages:

  • putting the user's address and the written part of the cabled money order respectively on the left-hand side in the first zone and in the second zone of the first form to go to the consignee;
  • writing essential date on the second form for filing;
  • automatic detachment and filing of the second form;
  • folding inwards the second the third zones of the first form one against the other so that the upper margin of the second zone and the lower margin of the third zone glue together, as do also the glue prepared areas on the inner lateral strips;
  • delivery of the cabled money order to the consignee who signs that part of it forming the receipt;
  • detachment by tearing of the receipt signed by the consignee who accepts the form leaving the receipt to the postman;
  • detachment by the consignee of the tear-off lateral strips so that he can open the form and read the message;
  • detachment by the consignee of the second zone of the first form which he presents to the post office for payment.

The invention offers obvious advantages.

A continuous form can be so divided up as to produce forms for telegrams or for cabling money orders at the same time acting as an envelope thus considerably simplifying all related operations.

Times are greatly shortened since, having once written the message and other indications on one side of the form, it has merely to be detached from the continuous form and folded up.

Signing the receipt is made quick and easy.

In the case of the cabled money order, production of the form to be retained by the postal authorities, automatically detachable from the continuous form, is also quick and easy.

The possibility of using the second zone of the back side of the form given to the consignee for collecting payment and for any endorsement necessary, ensures that all operations are carried through without difficulty.

The work of the postal authorities is simplified and excuted with greater security providing considerable functional and economic advantages.

Characteristics and purposes of the invention will be made still clearer by the following examples of its excution illustrated by diagrammatic drawings.

The continuous form 10 has longitudinal lateral lines 11 and 12 prepared for tear-off which create the longitudinal edge strips 20 containing holes 25 and the adjacent internal bands 21 and 22 for glueing means, and further has the transversal tear-off lines 13 equally spaced from which originate the similar forms 15. On their front sides (Fig.1) said forms 15 show three transversal zones A B C marked off by pairs of short lines 16 and 17 at the edges.

Close to the upper margin of zone B and on the inner lateral strips 21 and 22 are glued areas 30 31 and 32.

Close to the lower margin of zone C and on the inner lateral strips 21 and 22 respectively are glued areas 33, 34 and 35.

Between zones A and B there is a transversal tear-off line 40 that extends as far as the start of a longitudinal tear-off line 41 lying about halfway across the continuous form 10 and extending up to the higher margin of zone A and thus dividing zone A into sections a and b.

On the back side (Fig. 2) of said forms 15 are three transversal zones A' B' and C' corresponding to zones A, B and C already indicated.

Close to the upper margin of zone A' and on the inner right-hand lateral strip 21 are glued areas 45 and 46.

Close to the lower margin of zone B' and on the inner right-hand lateral strip 21 are glued areas 47 and 48.

The form laid out as described permits compilation to be carried out on its front side only as seen in Fig. 3, putting the address 49 of the consignee in section (a) of zone A and the message 50 in zones B and C.

The form is best closed by folding zone B over zone C at the short lines 17, and zone A' against zone B' at short lines 16 and at the tear-off line 40 (Fig. 4).

By so folding the form the glued areas 30 31 32 in zone B match with glued areas 33 34 35 in zone C (Figs.4, 5)while glued areas 45 46 in zone A' match up with glued areas 37 and 48 in zone B' (Fig. 6).

Section a) of zone A is glued to zone B' while section b) is left attached to form 15 on the tear-off lines 40 and 41 (Fig.6).

The glue used is a strong kind to ensure safe closure by a reciprocal reaction of the glued areas. The postman hands the closed form (Fig.7) to the consignee who places his signature 53 in section b) forming the receipt.

When said receipt has been detached the form 15' (Fig. 9) is given to the consignee and the postman keeps the receipt.

Clearly, therefore, the described form fulfils all the functions of ordinary telegrams with their envelopes.

The word "telegram" 50 and the postal authorities' brand mark 51 are printed in section a).

The word "receipt" 52 is printed in section b).

The words POSTAL AUTHORITIES 53 are printed in zone C'.

The continuous form 55 for cabled money orders (Fig.10) has two longitudinal sections, section I and section II, marked off by the continuous line 62 and the longitudinal sets 63 64 and 65 of perforations 66.

Sets of perforations 63 and 65 lie at the outer longitudinal edges of the sections I and II.

Set of perforations 64 lies at the inner edge of section I.

Close to the two longitudinal edges of section I are the respective pairs of prepared tear-off lines 70-71 and 72-73.

On the continuous form 55 there are also the transversal prepared tear-off lines 75 equally spaced that divide the form into equal parts 56.

By means of the continuous longitudinal line 62, said parts 56 create two forms 57 and 58 joined together.

Form 57, for the user, is virtually the same as form 15 for telegrams already described, and is divided, by the transversal tear-off lines 76 and 77 into transversal zones A, B and C of the same size.

Close to the upper margin of zone B and on the longitudinal areas marked off by the pair of tear-off lines 70-71 and 72-73 respectively may be seen the glued strips 80 81 and 82.

Close to the lower margin of zone C and on the lateral areas referred to above, may be seen the glued strips 83 84 and 85.

In zone A there is a longitudinal tear-off line 78 about halfway across said zone, said line forming sections a) and b).

On the back side of this form 57 (Fig.11) are three transversal zones A' B' C' corresponding to zones A B C already indicated.

Near the upper margin of zone A' and on the inner right-hand lateral area marked off by pairs of tear-off lines 70 71, are the glued strips 86 87 respectively.

Near the lower margin of zone B' and on the above lateral area are the glued strips 88 and 89 respectively.

In zone A of the forms 57 here described are the words cabled money order 90, the words "BANCOPOSTA Italian post office" 91, the brand mark 92 for the postal service as a whole, and the brand mark 93 for the "BANCOPOSTA" service. Zone B includes boxes 94 and line 95 for expressing in figures and in letters the sum of the cabled money order, and lines 96 and 97 respectively for sender and consignee.

Form 58, to be used by the postal authorities for filing, includes boxes 98 and line 99 for expressing in figures and in letters the sum sent by cabled money order.

The space marked 100 in zone B contains lines for the sender's message.

The address 101 of the consignee is written in subsection (a) of section A.

Zone B' of form 57 contains the word ENDORSEMENT 65 with a space below for the signature.

Having fully compiled forms 57 and 58, the filing part 58 is automatically detached for the authorities' files.

Form 57, with its three zones A B and C,is detached and sent to the consignee as explained for form 15 for telegrams (Figs. 1 - 9).

The various stages are illustrated in Figs. 13 - 17.

To cash the cabled money order at the post office, the consignee detaches section 105 in zone B by tearing along the tear-off lines 76 77 (Fig. 19).

The endorsement may be made in the space 106 on the back (Fig. 20).

The form here described therefore clearly fulfils the functions of both the ordinary cabled money order forms and of the envelopes that contain them.
